RJ plugs and covers

RJ plugs are a type of plugs used in telecommunications for many years. In the beginning, they were used in telephones to connect them, and they were one or two pairs. With the creation of LAN networks based on twisted pair , an RJ45 connector was designed to enable a total of four-pair cables. At the moment, it is the most popular RJ type connector. RJ45 plugs can be used both for terminating a stranded twisted pair (each wire consists of many very thin conductors) mainly used in patchcords and wire type. The plugs for these applications differ in the way the contact terminates that connects to the conductor.

Rj45 connectors can come in many types of grades:

• RJ45 UTP cat.5e plug
• plug RJ45 FTP / STP cat.5e
• RJ45 UTP cat 6 plug
• plug RJ45 FTP / STP cat. 6
• RJ45 UTP cat 6A plug
• plug RJ45 FTP / STP cat. 6A
• RJ45 UTP cat 7 plug
• plug RJ45 FTP / STP cat. 7

RJ45 plugs - types and application

To properly terminate the cable and protect it from damage, the RJ45 plug must be fitted with a cover. Factory-made cables (the so-called patchcords) are covered with special injection molding machines. Separately mounted covers must be used for hand-mounted plugs.

There are 2 types of casings:

• external, snap-on covers for RJ plug . After installation, it is wider and in some devices there may be a problem with connecting multiple plugs side by side,
• internal, equipped with special handles that lock into it when tightened. The cover has the same width as the plug and when fitted, the complete plug has the same width as the RJ45 plug itself.
